Here it is folks! Although what badge this GM prototype will ultimately wear remains unclear, these are the clearest pics to date of the mid-engined supercar the General has been toiling away at behind a shrouded veil of secrecy.

There have been many mules running around as of late, but these latest shots from AutoBlog reveal a car with unmistakeable mid-engine proportions and naked, swirly fiberglass/carbon fiber poking out from between the camo’d front and rear ends

We recently speculated on whether this is a Corvette or Cadillac. Whatever it is, it looks like it will be bristling with high tech features. Look for an emphasis in weight savings, aerodynamics, and the use of materials like carbon fiber throughout.

Codenamed the Emperor, this “Cadvette” will elevate GM to supercar status as it competes with overpriced European exotics and Ford GT.

Motivation is unclear as well. There have been whispers of a twin-turbo V6 or an “old school” LT V8. General Motors also has a 10-speed automatic transmission up its sleeve–developed with Ford–and it debuts on the Chevy Camaro ZL1 first.

Reportedly, the mid-engine platform was being developed long ago, but was delayed due to GM’s brush with death in 2009. Now that GM’s in the black, a mid-engine supercar appears to be online for 2019.

The C7 is rumored to soldier on until 2021.

Although these pictures bring details of the GM supercar into focus, the debate remains as fuzzy as ever.
