It’s green, and it’s definitely mean. Bob Gulitti’s 2011 sportsman Chevrolet Camaro turns heads and burns up the 1/4-mile in under 7 seconds. See how Bob’s battle with cancer inspired his gnarliest creation yet.

For Bob Gulitti of Tomball, Texas, drag racing is a family thing. Some of his earliest memories revolve around heading to the track with his brother Chris to help their father with his drag car. “We thought everyone went to the race track on Sunday afternoons,” Bob told us.

The 2011 Chevy Camaro has no trouble smoking the back tires during Bob’s burnout.

When Bob was old enough, he joined his father at the track with his first car, a 1967 Camaro (a Chevy he and his brother also drove to high school each day). As he got older, his passion for drag racing only increased. In 1996, Bob joined up with his current crew chief, Larry Rosenquist, to field a 1969 Camaro in NHRA Super Street (10.90 class), where they made it all the way to the finals at the 1997 Nationals at Bob’s home track, Royal Purple Raceway in Baytown, Texas. They lost that round to the Super Street “King” Rudy Matthews. He would eventually win his first Wally with a Top Sportsman Firebird in 2011.

Bob was diagnosed with lung cancer, and spent the next several months battling the disease. While in the hospital, Bob received a visit from someone in his drag racing “family,” Jeff Cummings Jr. Jeff gave Bob another reason to beat back his cancer. He wanted Bob to run the 2011 green Camaro he’d had built by Suncoast Race Cars in 2010.

With the support of his own family, the Cummings family, and his long-time crew chief Larry, Bob eventually beat his cancer and came back to Royal Purple Raceway in 2015 to again win Top Sportsman honors.

Just what makes this 2011 Camaro a killer on the track? Its Naiser Racing Components 817 cubic-inch mill that is hooked to a Neal Chance billet converter inside the Rossler Turbo 400 transmission, and a Pyle Brothers differential. This combination has catapulted the bright green Camaro down the track at a low e.t. of 6.22-seconds in the 1/4-mile, at a whopping 227 mph.

With a top 1/4-mile speed of 227, this is one mean green Camaro.

Of course, having a blistering fast and consistent sportsman Chevy Camaro isn’t the only thing that’s made Bob Gulitti one of the top sportsmen in the nation. After a childhood of drag racing and battling a life-threatening illness, he’ll be the first to tell you his official and drag racing “family” has been the key to making him a champion on the track.

“It is a lifestyle for our family, and I couldn’t do this without the love and support from my lovely wife Lisa and both children, Emma and Zachary,” said Bob. He also credits teammate Jeff Cummins for helping him to “push the envelope,” and his crew of Larry Rosenquist, Paul Rose, and Kenny Hubbard.

Bob carries the front tires down the track with flames shoot from the Camaro’s exhaust.

Expect to see Bob Gulitti, his crew and his family all over the country this season, as they work to remain one of the teams to beat in Top Sportsman with their eye-catching green 2011 Chevy Camaro.
