Coalinga Airport is where the popular Shift S3ctor half-mile is held, for those that didn’t know.

The event attracts owners with high-horsepower toys that are in it for the top speed, so you can imagine that some of these cars are extensively modded and this is not just your average run-what-you-brought type of event. For Shift S3ctor’s 2013 event, Caliber Customs brought out their F-body Camaro and took the championship in Tier 1.

The 2001 Z/28 Camaro, piloted by Sean Cagle, hit a top speed of 198.9 MPH in the half-mile race. Aerodynamic technology did help the car reach that speed, but the engine has to get a little credit, too. Making the power is a Doug Rylee 370 cubic-inch iron block with AFR 225 heads. Caliber Customs built their own twin-turbo kit using two Turbonetics turbos and it looks pretty sinister. To top it off, the car has a Rossler TH210 transmission and it was tuned by Synergy Motorsports.

Caliber Customs also designed their own aero kit for the car which helps it get up to almost 200 MPH. It consists of the front grille block-off plate, front splitter, side skirts, a rear wing, and a rear diffuser. Watching the F-body Camaro rip down the airstrip, eating up an 1100+ HP Ford GT, Mustang Cobra, and a Nissan GT-R in the process was quite refreshing. We’re so used to seeing F-body Camaros on the drag strip, not competing in a half mile event like Shift S3ctor’s.

Hopefully Caliber Customs will bring the car out again and try to reach a new best top speed for 2015!
