Own James Garner’s ’68 Corvette L88 Today For $750,000

There are few Corvettes which truly embody the legacy of America’s sports car quite as much as the ’68 Chevrolet Corvette L88. Found over at the Hemmings Blog, we were wowed that this particular L88 is one of three L88 cars campaigned by James Garner’s American International Racing team at Daytona. The L88 was a legend-maker in its own right, completely dominating all on-comers, either from Chrysler, Ford or even other GM brands. The L88’s power-to-weight ratio made it a street and track juggernaut and rightly so.

This car though, is all the more special. For sale here, the L88 is very complete with three folders full of various documentation, including three log books, various documents describing the car’s history, photos, information about both the current and original engines, and many magazines featuring the Corvette (including the August of 1973 issue of Playboy, where it was featured). Oh yeah, there’s also the car’s FIA papers, as well as period documents from the Daytona race.

You’ll notice that the interior is Spartan at best, with racing buckets, roll bar, and harness. As the owner says, the dashboard is “in great shape and is fully instrumented with warning lights and period instruments. The engine compartment is detailed and purposeful, as is the underside.”

He continues, “Having received a high quality restoration and race preparation, the car has excellent race cosmetics. The paintwork was done to high standards, and while there are a few blemishes, car presents very nicely overall and would be perfectly at home on the lawn or in the paddock. The chrome and trim are in great shape, as are the light sand glass. The graphics and paint color faithfully reproduce the car’s original AIR appearance, and the car sits on vintage style Goodyear race tires and torq thrust wheels.”
