Edmunds Inside Line Ranks 100 Greatest Chevys Of All Time

With Chevrolet celebrating their centennial anniversary this year, it is only fitting that the 100 greatest Chevrolets ever created be acknowledged and celebrated right along with the company. Edmunds Inside Line stepped up to the challenge of choosing the top Chevy vehicles that had an undeniable impact on the company. With hundreds of models, years and great accomplishments to pick from, Edmunds narrowed down the selection to the top 100, not forgetting about prototypes, concept cars, racers or iconic movie cars.

Known as the Chevrolet that brought absolute greatness to the company, the ‘55 Bel Air Sport Coupe tops Edmunds’ list. The rest of the top seven consists of all Corvettes and Camaros, including the ‘63 Corvette Coupe, ‘67 Camaro Z/28, ‘90 and ‘09 Corvette ZR1s, the ‘85 IROC-Z and the ‘69 Camaro ZL-1. Rounding out the top ten is the ‘70 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 in eighth place, the ‘57 Bel Air convertible in ninth and the ‘11 Volt in tenth.

Twelfth place is the first time on the list a true racecar is seen, with the ‘86 Monte Carlo SS Aerodeck. The first Chevrolet truck on the list, an ‘88 C/K Pickup appears thirteenth on the list. Twenty-second on the list is the 1911 Series C Class Six, the very first Chevrolet ever created and obviously the oldest on the Edmunds’ list. Other notable cars in the top 25 are the ‘61 Impala SS for being the first Super Sport, the ‘35 Suburban for being in almost constant production since its introduction and Bill “Grumpy” Jenkins’ ‘68 Camaro Pro Stock for being the winner of the first two NHRA Pro Stock races.

Further down the list we find the nasty ‘55 from American Graffiti, the ‘59 mid-engine experimental vehicle known as CERV-1, the ‘59 Stingray concept and the ‘65 Mako Shark II concept.

From Grave Digger, a Chevy-powered monster truck, to tons of Corvettes and Camaros, there is something that everyone can respect on the list. While we may not agree with some of the Chevys that made the top 100, Edmunds gives good reasons as to why the models were picked. Here’s the Top 10 from Edmunds

10. 2011 Volt: Maybe the most innovative car ever built by GM, it’s destined to technologically lead Chevy through its second century.
9. 1957 Bel Air Convertible: Flamboyant, iconic, and with the fuel-injected 283-hp, 283-cubic-inch small-block V8, powerful.
8. 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6: King of the muscle-bound era. The 454-cubic-inch LS6 big-block V8 was likely underrated at 450 hp.
7. 1969 Camaro ZL-1: Only 69 were built under Central Office Production Order (COPO) 9560. The all-aluminum 427 big-block V8 weighed less than a small-block and rated at 430 hp. Built to race, they’re the ultimate collector Camaro.
6. 1985 Camaro IROC-Z: New Jersey’s favorite cah! Still a great-handling, great-driving machine on a gorgeous set of 16-inch wheels. Gina! I’m sorry! Get back in the cah!
5. 2009 Corvette ZR1: There’s a 638-hp supercharged 6.2-liter LS9 V8 under its hood. It’s by far the quickest and fastest production Corvette ever built.
4. 1990 Corvette ZR1: A bold experiment with a Lotus-designed, 375-horsepower, 5.7-liter DOHC 32-valve V8, widened rear fenders and a massive price tag. Set the performance bar for all Corvettes to come.
3. 1967 Camaro Z/28: Chevy’s answer to the Mustang was clean, beautiful and magical. The Trans Am-ready Z/28 was the best of the new breed. Power came from the great DZ302 302-cubic-inch small-block V8 rated at 290 hp.
2. 1963 Corvette Coupe: The first Corvette Sting Ray. Nearly a half-century later, it’s still an astonishingly beautiful car. Plus all-independent suspension and the L84 fuel-injected 327-cubic-inch V8 made 360 hp.

1. 1955 Bel Air Sport Coupe: The perfect container for the new, world-class small-block V8 engine. This is the Chevy that brought greatness to Chevrolet
