This past weekend, the normally lush, green grass of Moss-Wright Park in Goodlettsville, TN was speckled with Marina Blue, Regal Red, Tuxedo Black and a rainbow of other Chevelles, El Caminos and Malibus. Chevellabration is exactly what it sounds like – a celebration of the A-body and it’s die-hard enthusiasts. Our good friends over at Detroit Speed & Engineering were there as well to join in the fun.
Chevellabration is organized by ACES president, Chuck Hanson with help from Dave Sharpe as the show announcer and was held this past weekend, June 6th-8th. Over the three day festival, spectators can check out the best the A-body world has to offer. From drag racing at Nashville dragstrip, a car show to autocross, there’s lots to do. There’s even Matchbox car racing for the little ones.
The first day of the show entailed lots of seminars for both spectators and vendors to collect information on how to enjoy every aspect of Chevellabration with such vendors as Billet Specialties, Classic Instruments & many more.
Many people spent the afternoon looking at the car crowd before cruising over to the Nashville Dragstrip for an evening of A-body drag racing. On the second day, it seemed like the cars were never ending!
One after one, more Chevelles, El Caminos and Malibus poured into the park, which made peer voting for the Chevellabration Car Show a real tough one to judge. Autocross sparked a fire of interest within the event and everyone from beginners to very experienced drivers took to the competition.
Congratulations to Tom Farrington who won the Fast Lap Time with a 17.307 while Greg Callahan came in 2nd with a 17.753 and Rick Byfield in 3rd with a time of 18.916. Not only was there a ton of Autocross action but there was games all across the event with even peddle car racing and Matchbox cars for the little enthusiasts.
On the third and final day of Chevellabration, the crowd was larger than it had been the past two days with more and more Chevelles coming out of the wood-work for one of the most exciting days of the weekend. Participants of the show got the chance to be part of a giant group shoot for the cover of Chevelle World and there was even a “spark plug changing contest” for the folks who enjoy changing their plugs. Show awards were passed out to the winners of the weekend. Winners included David Beach, Tom Farrington and Randy Fricke, congratulations!
This year’s Chevellabration was a great display of good ol’ American muscle, Summer and enthusiasts coming out to enjoy a weekend of automotive action. We look forward to next year’s event with even more Chevelle’s than this year!
