Video: TUNED Tags Along to Hennessey’s Record Breaking Stunt

For years, the battle of creating the fastest production car has engrossed car manufacturers all over the world. But for now, John Hennessey can rest assured that he officially holds the title for creating the production car with the fastest acceleration time on record. That’s right, the American-bred Hennessey Venom GT is officially a record holder in the Guinness Book of World Records. Of course, there are plenty of other records aiming to prove one supercar is bigger and better than the next, so you’ll have to be the judge on which brand takes the clear title. But for now, we have no problem celebrating this accomplishment by reliving the GT’s record breaking stunt through the eyes of TUNED above.

A little over a week ago, we brought you the news that the twin-turbocharged, 1,244+ horsepower Hennessey Venom GT had secured its place in the record books by running from zero to 300KPH (186.411 MPH) in just 13.63 seconds. The stunt, which was performed at the Ellington Airport outside Houston, Texas, was led by Hennessey himself – a rather proud father to one of the fastest cars on the planet. Needless to say, this car creator doesn’t step down to other supercar competition very easily.

Lucky for us, cameras were rolling both inside and outside the Venom when it made its record-setting runs (one run in each direction, to average out any advantage from wind ) with driver John Kiewicz behind the wheel. And along for the journey was Matt Farah and the TUNED crew. But it’s not just what Hennessey accomplished with the Venom that makes this story one for the record books – in actuality, it’s the story that led up to such a feat that makes it so special.

What may seem like a simple record-setting run started out for Hennessey nearly five years ago. With a special knack for horsepower and speed, Hennessey realized his dream of creating the fastest road car on earth rather quickly, but getting the Venom in tip-top shape with all factors coming together perfectly for the record-chasing run took months and months to get to.

Lucky for Hennessey, early 2013 was his time to really shine, and on January 10th, he proved himself as the creator of one of the fastest production cars ever built, running the record-setting run in just 13.63 seconds – nearly a full second faster than the previous acceleration record, held by the Koenigsegg Agera R.

There is no doubt that the Hennessey Venom GT is an amazing piece of performance history.

And being built right here in the United States at the hands of one of our greatest performance car designers, we couldn’t be happier for Hennessey Performance and the industry we all share.
