PRI 2015: Vortech Drops XB112, Improved YSiXB On The World

The NMRA Renegade and NMCA/NMRA Street Outlaw classes are all a testament to how much horsepower you can put to the ground with small bias-ply and radial tires, and a single power adder. As a manufacturer of championship-proven race blowers, Vortech Superchargers naturally has to keep up with ever-evolving needs of racers. The introduction of the new V-28 XB112 and the V-27 YSi-B-X is the next generation of Vortech engineering.

“We designed the V28-XB112 specifically to address the NMRA and NMCA Street Outlaw classes. We’ve redesigned the compressor housing to accommodate the new from-scratch billet compressor wheel, and have had great results with testing on Chris Groves’ Mustang,” says Lance Keck, lead engineer at Vortech.

With the redesign overhaul made to the XB112’s billet impeller, it outperforms the previous XB110. Performance specifications project an increase in the maximum boost output from 35 psi to the low 40 psi range, depending on engine combinations, at 65,000 rpm. The XB112 boasts an 1,800-plus horsepower rating, with peak efficiency being around 77-78 precent, as Keck tells us. The new NMCA/NMRA Street Outlaw spec’d V-28 XB112 supercharger will be something to keep an eye on when the 2016 season gears up to start in March.

Vortech’s infamous YSi gets its latest facelift, with a more aggressive impeller wheel design to battle the opposing power adder combinations in NMRA Renegade and NMCA Extreme Street classes, in the form of the YSi-B-X.

MG5_6632“Increased flute size and a tweak of the wheel design and dimensions on both the billet and cast wheels were made to satisfy the ever-greater horsepower demands of the classes,” Keck shares. The inducer size holds steady at a limiting 3.70-inch diameter to remain a class-legal choice for racers, yet doesn’t hold back on its 30-plus psi rating, pushing this centrifugal blower horsepower to over 1,500 horsepower with a 2,000-plus cfm output capacity.

In an ever-evolving racing world, staying ahead of the competition is a demanding and grueling task, but the newest superchargers coming out of Vortech’s design team could possibly be the E-ticket to the winner’s circle in 2016.
