Rust on a classic car is the bane of every enthusiast’s existence. Even Corvette owners have dealt with it. When it comes to preventing or neutralizing rust, POR-15 is about as well-known as it gets. There isn’t a restoration shop or home do-it-yourselfer that hasn’t used the product. Why? Because it works.
The original POR-15 is a rust-preventive paint designed to be applied directly on rusted metal surfaces. It dries to a rock-hard, non-porous finish that won’t chip, crack, or peel. It also prevents rust from reoccurring by protecting metal from further exposure to moisture.
But, POR-15 has upped their game by introducing a spray on, Clear Matte clearcoat finish that creates a great look. “It is a true, automotive clearcoat, but keeps a low sheen, said Nick Anagnostis. “The low sheen is great for custom looks, it’s 50-state compliant, and we’re not using any matting agents to get the low sheen.”
Another great item coming out of the POR camp is a true rust bath designed for soaking parts. “depending on the level of corrosion, you let the rusted part soak in the bath for a length of time, which depends on the level of rust, and when you bring it out of the bath, you have a shiny piece that looks like new, and till has its integrity,” Nick said.
So, when it’s time to deal with rust, or when you want to create a custom look with a low gloss, check out POR-15.
