Many of us recall spending countless hours with our dad, learning the finer points of working on our cars. For some, it was the foundation that flung them out into the DIY auto repair world. For others, it was just the beginning of a long-term relationship between two different generations enjoying their cars together. Either way, Father’s Day is a time we thank them for all they’ve done for us and hopefully, we have the opportunity to make some new memories along the way.
This story, shared by Corvette parts company Corvette Central, is just like the second type of father/son car-guy tale in more ways than one. The story of Jerry Seida and his 1966 Corvette, his son Larry, and his 1959 Corvette covers multiple generations of both people and Corvettes. Jerry and his son own their own shop and have restored many Corvettes themselves.
Father’s Day In A Multiple Corvette Family
The family has owned multiple Corvettes, including a 1963, 1965, 1970, 1974 (454 cubic-inch), 1978, 1988 Anniversary Edition, and a 1999 C5 Corvette that Jerry repainted from black to yellow. Growing up around Corvettes, it goes without saying that the brand had a profound impact on the younger Seida, who remembers riding in the cargo area of his father’s 1971 Corvette. He learned to drive in a 1963 Corvette and recalled his father’s reaction to him popping the clutch in the car. No doubt it was a memorable day for both Seida family members!
Larry purchased his own Corvette, a C1 Corvette built in 1959. He bought the car in 1990 and the car took six months to rebuild. Larry takes the white and turquoise convertible out as much as possible, and of course, drops the top to do so. The next generation of Seida members (Jerry’s grandchildren) refer to their father’s ’59 as, “Dad’s cool car”. Clearly, they have been brought up to have good taste in automobiles.
As we finish up scouring the aisles looking for the perfect Father’s Day card or another new necktie, let’s not forget that we’re commemorating all that our pops have done for us over the years. While each story may have different twists and turns, you can bet that we wouldn’t be who we are without them. We hope your story is just as cool and has as many fond memories as Jerry and Larry Seida’s. And, we join with the folks at Corvette Central, wishing all dads a happy Father’s Day and another round of special memories with the family.
