Paralyzed Navy Veteran’s Single-Turbo 1999 Camaro

Scottiewheels

When someone lives a life without a handicap, but then is somehow injured to the point where things most of us take for granted aren’t there, it can be a major adjustment not just physically, but emotionally. But many that face this challenge head-on, not willing to fold up their life like a lawn chair and give up.

Since he is paralyzed, Scottywheels' Camaro features hand controls to enable him to race the car.

Since he is paralyzed, MacDonald’s’ Camaro features hand controls to enable him to race the car.

Scotty MacDonald is the latter. Injured while serving our country, he didn’t mail it in…he kept going. He hasn’t let his handicap define him; rather, MacDonald uses it to inspire others, and this Camaro is part of his inspiring story.

The paralyzed Navy veteran bought his Camaro already built, which most of the time, is the way to do it anyway. Even though that’s the case, he’s changing things up from a power adder perspective from a supercharger to a turbocharger.

But before we get into that, let’s look at the Camaro’s package.

The basis for the power is a Dart-block 427 LS engine with a Dragon Slayer crank, Crower rods, cathedral-port heads, a Holley Hi-Ram intake, Big Stuff3 engine management system, a Rossler Turbo 400 with a PTC converter, and a 9-inch rear with 3.50 gears.

When MacDonald bought the car it had a ProCharger F-1C before upgrading it to a F-1X, but now he’s going the turbo route with a Garrett billet 94mm single turbo. Along with the turbo, the car is receiving a Chiseled Performance air-to-water intercooler, twin 44mm wastegates, an ATI race blow-off valve, Stainless Works turbo headers, and a Leash boost controller with a Davis Bump Box.

Outlaw Racecraft’s Paul McDermott performed the turbo swap, and PSI Speed Solutions’ Frank Soldridge will handle the car’s tune. MacDonald also sends out thanks to forcedinductions.com and GM Precision Welding and Fabrication.
