Since being founded in 1972, Gulfport Dragway has become Gulfport, Mississippi’s leading 1/4- and 1/8th-mile dragstrip for beginners and experts. Every Wednesday night, Gulfport welcomes everyone to join in on the straight line racing action.
As seen from today’s featured wheelie video, Wednesday night drags at Gulfport are a local treat and a test of motoring skill. The radical ’68 Camaro seen in this feature takes the cake on wheelie stands, and it rides its own tail as it does its thing.
Anyone who has ever been a member of our little motor loving family at powerTV long enough can tell you that wherever there are burnouts and wheelie stands, we’ll be right on it. This is especially true when the said wheel stand ends in sparks.
The Camaro at Gulfport is lucky enough to not ignite itself, but it still creates a firework show as it screams down the Mississippi strip.
The first-gen Camaro’s front end gets almost as much air as a dirt bike, but it never totally loses itself. No one ever wants to see a cool drag car like this one go into a wall, and we’re sure glad that the driver of this First Gen was able to pull off a wheel stand with at least a little finesse. Indeed there is always a certain “finesse” that goes with the dragstrip, one that goes with the chili dogs and flat beer, and our featured pony is living proof.
