What would you do if you won the lottery? No doubt, many of you would buy your dream car, or maybe even several of them. But for one Washington man, the answer was not buying his dream car, a ’69 Camaro, but rather buying it back from the current owner. Thanks to MSNBC for reporting on this incredible story.
When times get rough, people go to some desperate measures to be able to make ends meet. For many automotive enthusiasts, prized vehicles are unfortunately one of the first things to go since they are not truly a necessity. No one knows this better than William Stidham, a Washington school bus mechanic who recently sold his beloved ’69 Camaro (not the one pictured above) after spending 20 years building it in order to afford his mortgage and help finance his daughter’s wedding.
Thinking ahead to the future and not wanting the sale of his car to be the last that he’d see of his prized possession, Stidham made a deal with the buyer that if he could afford to buy back the car in the future, he would be able to. That day came sooner than anyone thought when Stidham, who plays the local Hit 5 lottery game regularly, bought a winning ticket worth $600,000. Upon winning, Stidham called the current owner of the Camaro who happily sold the car back to him.
Stidham told MSNBC that he doesn’t plan on quitting his job and will also use some of the money to pay off bills.
We’re glad that such a great result came about from the unfortunate circumstance of one automotive enthusiast having to sell his prized classic muscle car. Stidham’s win just goes to show that perseverance pays off, even if it is just buying lotto tickets.
