There is nothing natural about a ‘68 El Camino blasting through the turns of an autocross course. That doesn’t mean it’s impossible, however, and the YouTube video above is proof of that. So hang on tight and enjoy the ride as you take on the twists and turns of traditional autocross behind the wheel of the classic Chevy utility vehicle.

The video is shot at the Midwest City Sheriff’s Track in Oklahoma during an autocross event put on by the BMW Club of Oklahoma City on November 12^th. With a camera mounted inside, the owner/driver Jose Vasquez takes to the track with brute force and determination for his fifth and final lap of the autocross course. Weaving its way through slaloms and sliding around corners, the classic utility vehicle seems to navigate the course gracefully with very little body roll apparent. Although the course is complicated with very little room to maneuver in places, the El Camino gets through without instance, completing the course with a total of 108 points.

The Camino is powered by a 383 stroker, has a large variety of Hotchkis upgraded suspension components, and will even run 13’s in the quarter. This just goes to show that all that hype about performance suspension systems is legit and a proper setup really can make a world of difference in the control and handling of your classic car.
