According to RideTech, there are a few questions that one must answer before finally deciding on a coilover setup for a classic street rod or muscle car. One of these is a question of whether the shocks will be used on a street or race application; in the case of the latter, adjustable coilovers are definitely the way to go, allowing for optimum handling under all driving conditions.
As elementary as these questions may seem, RideTech makes the observation that they are some of the hardest for most motoring enthusiasts to answer. All of us are lucky, in that sense, to be able to benefit from RideTech and their 14 years of suspension development experience.
One satisfied customer who has enjoyed the benefits of RideTech’s suspension savvy is Camaro owner, Kevin Miller, whose ’69 is fully-equipped with RideTech’s adjustable, triple-coilover front and rear shocks, along with RideTech’s 4-bar rear suspension.
Chubby’s Performance Fabrication out of Vinland, Kansas teamed-up with Miller and Bret Voelkel to build the road-handling pony, and Miller’s Camaro is powered by a complete LS drivetrain, including GM’s LS1 mill with a T56 trans. According to Miller, he learned how to build cars by watching his stepdad over the last 10 some-odd years, and though he received some help on his RideTech Camaro project, he did almost the whole project by himself in his two-car garage, a project that, overall, took about three years to complete.
Miller says that his early Camaro was built with both function and economy in mind; a fan of road-racing and the autocross scene, Miller built his Camaro to run the best that it possibly can while staying within Miller’s own dollar bracket.
