It’s the horror scenario every enthusiast dreads when considering a new set of wheels. Buying online saves you money, but what happens if the wheels arrive, you mount tires on them and they don’t fit? One way or another, that’s going to cost you money.

Heading to the local speed shop for wheels lets you presumably deal with folks that have experience and full understanding of all the fitment issues and will stand behind their recommendations.

That expertise usually comes with a price, though. You can spend time online researching the options or reading of other people’s experiences, but as luck often has it, finding someone that has used your favored wheel on your model year car with the same tires, is somewhere beyond challenging.

Many of the technical issues in specifying a wheel are reasonably straight forward. The wheel’s diameter, width and bolt circle diameter are important starting points.
