While we are all about American muscle here at powerTV, even we must admit that in the past two decades, Japanese automakers have offered a few pretty attractive sports cars in the U.S. The only problem is that, until recently, most of them were underpowered by naturally-aspirated four-cylinder engines. At least throw a turbo on there! It also didn’t help that otherwise-attractive cars like the Acura Integra were front-wheel drive. What kind of self-respecting sports car does that to itself?
Well the fellows at Pro Street Unlimited in Manchester, New Hampshire have righted this grievous wrong with a 454 BBC-powered Acura Integra converted to rear-wheel drive.
The car was built by Pro Street Unlimited’s owner Kevin Damelio, probably as some sort of display of their skills and talents as mechanics and customizers. Or maybe they just did it for the hell of it. Who cares! This is by far the best Acura Integra we have every seen, and there is something so right (wrong?) about a supercharged V8 sitting in the engine bay of this “performance” import car.
Backing the engine is a TH350 transmission, which connects to a Ford 9-inch rear end sitting in a custom tube chassis. With the aggressive stance and tall supercharger sitting on top of the 454 BBC engine, this Integra probably isn’t what Acura had in mind. But we think it’s better than new. What import would you like to see given the American muscle car treatment?
