Street Feature: 1956 Chevy Wagon Is An Example Of Great Cruiser

1200-23This 1956 Chevrolet Wagon is nice, clean, and ready to drive. The current owner, Dennis Stone, of Bremerton, Washington, knew exactly what he wanted and reworked this wagon into just that. Dennis has already done quite a bit to this car, but there is still some work to be done—after all, when is a car ever really done?

This '56 looks good from every angle.

Dennis has had this car for six years and in that time it has evolved into what it is now. The previous owner was trying to make something of a racecar, and it used to have a floor shifter and bucket seats. “The guy was kind of trying to run it on the track,” Dennis explained. “I just want a cruiser.” A Chevy fan since high school, this is the perfect car for Dennis to have as a cruiser.

This long-roof is powered by a 4-bolt main, 350 cubic-inch engine that’s built to produce 340 horsepower. It also has a Holley carburetor, automatic transmission, and a 3.02:1 geared positraction rearend out of a 1964 Corvette.

Dennis also added a new wiring harness to his car. “You have to replace that stuff if you want to drive it,” he explained. “It’s not like back in high school, these are much harder to push now that I’m a little older.” Understandably, reliability is a key aspect of this build for Dennis. Sure, there are a lot of things that would probably be alright if they were left in original working condition, but Dennis wanted the certainty that comes along with new and for-sure parts.

1200-19“My favorite thing is everything,” Dennis told us. “My dad had a car like this and I wanted to be able to get this one while he was still around. That’s the one thing I would have liked, to take him for a drive.” Somehow, we think he’s cruising right along beside you, Dennis.
