Stevenson Motorsports has announced that the team will enjoy the return of their young California speedster, Matt Bell, for the full 2011 season Grand Sport (GS) campaign in the #9 Chevrolet Camaro GS.R.
In 2010, Bell set a series of impressive new benchmarks in the Chevrolet Camaro for Stevenson Motorsports by scoring the first-ever pole position, podium finish, and first lead laps in the maiden season of competition for the all-American machine.
“I am glad we are back for another year in the Rolex Grand-Am Series and we are returning with our seasoned crew.” Team Owner John Stevenson noted. “Last year was a frustrating year, but a learning curve for the team with the new Camaro, as we had continuing battles with tire issues throughout the season. I am looking forward to running the new Continental tire in the 2011 season.”
The 2010 season ranged from disappointment to several shining moments with Bell behind the wheel. The 4th-year GRAND-AM driver is targeting a more consistent set of results this season. Bell is looking to improve on his career best result of 2nd in the GS Championship in 2009. He also tied the GRAND-AM record of five poles that season.
Bell is looking forward to a better season in 2011. “Stevenson made incredible progress last season, and even though that came at the cost of some race to race consistency, we all knew that was part of the development process. The Camaro has incredible potential, and I expect all that hard work will pay off with numerous podium finishes in 2011,” he explained.
Stevenson Motorsports runs two Camaros in the different series under Grand Am regulation. The #57 Camaro GT.R will contest the GT Class of the upcoming Rolex 24 Hour race, driven by Ronnie Bremer, Robin Liddell and Jan Magnussen.
The 2011 GRAND-AM Continental Tire Sports Car Challenge season will kick off at Daytona International Speedway on January 28. The Rolex 24 Hour race starts at 3:30 pm EST on January 29.
