Every year in historic downtown Riverside, CA they block off the streets and classic cars take them over. This year was bigger and better than previous years, with more attractions and more cars. The weather also cooperated as well, almost being too hot; previous years had required a jacket. The show started Friday afternoon and ran until Sunday afternoon.
This car show is put on by the Old Farts Racing Team and they do an excellent job. The show has several unique features that set it apart from regular car shows in the area. For starters, there is a cruise route that is several miles long. The second improvement is that the cars aren’t allowed to back into spots and cause a traffic jam, they pull in forward to keep traffic flowing. This also allows you to walk on the sidewalk and see the front end of every car. Lastly, on Saturday the show is only from 8AM to 5PM, no late nights. This might be odd, but that ensures the hours the show is underway are action packed.
On Friday night the show takes off with opening of the cruise route where people start showing off their rides. Saturday is the main day of the show with all of the activities going on such as: judging, an open header cruise, parade, vendors, food trucks and everything else you would expect at a show. Sunday wraps up early with award presentations.
We were able to walk around for a few hours on Saturday, taking in the cars and all the friendly people. There was close to 1,000 cars on display with everything from a 1920’s Model-T to a brand new Corvette. Check out the gallery below for a small sample of the cars at the show!
