It’s refreshing to learn that there are some dealerships out there who actually want to sell high performance cars. Apparently a little miffed that GM announced that the Australian-built Chevy Caprice sedan would remain as police-only fleet car, Criswell Chevrolet of Gaithersburg, MD replied, “To hell with that!”
Finding a tiny little loophole in GM’s sales contacts, Criswell jumped at the opportunity and specially equipped 13 detective sedans with additional features like power windows and seats priced between $31,000 to $37,000.
The Caprice is nearly identical to the discontinued 355hp V8-powered Pontiac G8, which of course, meets all U.S. standards of crashworthiness, pollution and fuel efficiency, that is, at least it should.
According to Jalopnik, the Caprice “isn’t listed in government databases for fuel economy ratings and crash tests; the efficiency data in particular is required to be displayed on window stickers.”
And, as you might imagine, Criswell’s daring sale of the 13 Caprices has prompted GM to alter its contracts, making the car’s public sale an airtight impossibility.
