Last Thursday, The Wall Street Journal reported issues with the 2015 Corvettes, and GM is reacting by pulling back sales. As a result of recently discovered issues with the 2015 Stingray, GM has told dealers to stop selling the car. Current shipments are also being delayed from the GM plant while the automaker tackles a few problems.
A group of Stingrays have been made with only one of the two rear parking brake cables in place — this issue will need to be repaired by GM technicians. The second issue is a little more unnerving. What’s being called a “suspect” part to attach the air bag to the steering wheel needs to be addressed.
No injuries have been reported to prompt the action by GM, but problems with the emergency brake and air bag system are no joke.
We’re not in recall territory, yet, but a stop-sell has been stamped on the new Stingrays. GM hasn’t released a number, but they are concerned about potential problems in cars which have already been received by customers.
Many are wondering if GM could fare another disastrous recall, if it comes to that. Not to mention, the Stingray has really been the saving grace of the brand during the recent ignition nightmare.
If sales were significantly delayed, or if the model is “officially” recalled, it could cause permanent damage to the brand’s image. Do you think GM has the situation under control, or do you think this is just the tip of the iceberg?
