Tom is a gentleman living the American dream. He is a successful businessman, he enjoys spending his weekends in the deserts of Southern California, driving a sweet LS-powered sand rail, or making passes in his 9-second Chevy Nova drag car. With these fast machines, what else could he possibly need? Well, no garage is complete with out a grocery getter, so how about an 850 horsepower, 1968 Pro Touring-style Camaro?
While searching for a new toy, Tom found a run down 1968 Camaro, and thought it would be a perfect project. Luckily, it’s a California car. This means that it was spared from rust thanks to the dry climate. He’s realist, and knew that he would need help building the car of his dreams, so he dropped the car off at Speedtech Performance in St. George, Utah, and the guys quickly got to work.
First they removed the factory suspension and front subframe, and then installed mini-tubs behind the rear seat. Then they installed their famous Speedtech Torque Arm Suspension system. The suspension features their Articulink control arms, laser cut and jig-welded center arm, billet Panhard bar, and Viking double-adjustable shocks to handle the bumps in the road. A Currie rearend with 3.89 gears was installed, while huge 14-inch Baer rotors with six piston calipers bring the car to a halt.
Covering the calipers are 20×12-inch Forgeline ZX3 wheels wrapped in 345/25R20 Nitto tires. Steering is handled by rack-and-pinion steering that is attached to ATS tall AFX spindles and Corvette ZR1 super-duty hubs.
The drivetrain is made up of a CBM Motorsports 425 cubic-inch LSX stroker engine, with a Whipple supercharger. This big-inch brawler puts out a massive 850 horses, which is picked up by a T56 six-speed manual transmission.
Tom’s Camaro recently achieved completion, and is not only a grocery getter, but it is a proven street fighter.
