The seller of this Camaro Z/28 said, “I blinked, turned around and found myself to be an old man, so I am selling my collection,” which makes us wonder if this could become a growing source of muscle cars over the decade or two. Well, it is better than estate sales, I guess.
Seriously though, the enormous ‘baby boomer’ generation is starting to retire like lemmings over a cliff and the pool of collectible automobiles they have invested in have limited future use to them. At this point, that money may be better spent on the grandkids, or a world vacation or another new priority.
In this case, the 1970 Camaro Z/28 is said to be a fully original 350 cui, 360 hp engine with Muncie 4-speed transmission and 12-bolt positraction rear end. The 1970 Z/28 engine was a derivative of the Corvette’s LT-1, using four-bolt mains, a forged steel crankshaft, impact extruded pistons and an 11:1 compression ratio. The standard cam was offered as an option in 1969, with .458-inch lift.
With 68K miles on the odometer, the car still sports its original Rally wheels, 150 mph speedometer and 8,000 rpm tachometer. Currently in Palm Beach, FL, the car is one of 8733 built that model year.
There is no documentation with the car, but it has been repainted at least once – now a Tuxedo black with silver striping. With six days remaining as we write this, the seller’s reserve bid has not been met, despite a high bid of $28,600.
