eBay Find of the Day: 100% Numbers-Matching ’69 Z11 Camaro Pace Car

After pacing the Indianapolis 500 in 1967, the Camaro was once again chosen to pace the 1969 race. With such a good response by race fans, Chevrolet decided to offer replicas of the official ‘69 Indianapolis Camaro Pace Car under the Z11 option. As notably one to most iconic pace cars in history, the ‘69 Camaro Pace Cars remain extremely collectable and sought after. That, however, doesn’t mean you can’t find one for a good deal, as our latest eBay find shows.

A total of 3,675 Indianapolis 500 Camaro Pace Cars were manufactured. The Z11 Camaros were Dove White RS/SS convertibles with white convertible tops just like the two original pace cars. They came with Hugger Orange Z28 hood and deck lid stripes, fender stripes and door decals, which were up to the owner of each Camaro to have put on. The pace car replicas were also fitted with special spoilers, deluxe seatbelts, rally wheels and a custom orange houndstooth cloth seats.

The base Z11s were equipped with the SS 350cui engine but could be upgraded to the larger 396cui V8. The Camaros could also be ordered with a number of different transmissions, including the base 3-speed manual, 3-speed automatic or 4-speed manual. Of the 3,675 Pace Cars created 43 Z11 Camaros with the SS 350cui and 3-speed automatics were given to the “500” Festival Committee for use in the official parade and Indianapolis 500 events.

The car up for sale on eBay is a true Z11 Camaro Pace Car. It is equipped with its original, numbers-matching 350cui V8 as well as its original 3-speed automatic transmission. According to the eBay posting, everything on the car is numbers-matching. It is uncertain whether this car was one of the 43 given to the “500” Festival Committee or just another 350 automatic Z11 ordered. The car remains museum-quality after its complete restoration a few years back.

Included in the sale of the car is the Camaro’s complete documentation, including the original Protect-O-Plate, advertisements and owner’s manual. Copies of all the previous titles as well as pictures and receipts from the restoration also come with the car.

This is a rare opportunity to own a historic ‘69 Indianapolis 500 Camaro Pace Car. To sweeten the deal, it is being offered for a very reasonable $60,500. It will be on eBay through October 24th for anyone interested in making an offer.
