To celebrate the start of the Texas Longhorn’s football season, (which by the way they lost last weekend to BYU 41-7… Hey, don’t shoot the messenger) Chevrolet has introduced a special edition University of Texas Longhorns Silverado.
The special edition Chevy Silverado will feature a Sunset Orange Metallic exterior paint, special UT graphics on the bed and tailgate, and chrome sidesteps. The cost of this option should only add $795 to the total bill. But it begs the question, why the Texas Longhorns, and not the Alabama Crimson Tide or say the LSU Tigers?
“There is no more appropriate place to showcase the stronger, smarter, more capable Chevrolet Silverado than in the heart of truck country,” said Sandor Piszar, Chevrolet director of Truck Marketing. “The special-edition Silverado is a natural fit for Chevrolet in Texas, where a Longhorn fan lives in one out of every three households, and those fans are almost twice as likely as average consumers to buy a truck.”
To receive the UT Edition 2015 Silverado, customers must purchase a Silverado Double Cab in LT or LTZ trim, or a Crew Cab in LTZ trim, and simply add the Texas Edition package.
The 2015 UT special edition also includes:
- 2WD or 4WD Double Cab LT or LTZ Trim with Texas Edition package configurations.
- LT – 20-inch polished aluminum wheels, body color mirror and door handles and Texas Edition badge.
- LTZ – 20-inch chrome wheels, chrome mirrors and door handles and Texas Edition badge.
- Spray-in bed liner.
“This is an exciting way for Longhorns everywhere to show their Texas pride as they cruise America’s highways and byways, and I’m glad to see that Bevo XIV (the Longhorn’s mascot) will continue to ride in style,” said Steve Patterson, director of Men’s Athletics at The University of Texas.
This is a fantastic marketing strategy by Chevrolet. If you follow college football, the Texas Longhorns have one of the most dedicated and loyal fanbase in the country. It’s only a matter of time until we see these UT Special Edition Silverados across the country.
