Crashing into stationary or moving objects happens to the best of us, but coming up with a creative reason for doing something stupid takes a certain level of skill. Take the 2012 Daytona 500 for example, Juan Pablo Montoya crashed into the jet dryer but blamed it on mechanical issues, not jumping on the brakes. Montoya’s explanation holds water better than a 17-year-old Naples Florida resident’s explanation for the damage he caused to an elementary school.
According to the teenager he “backed” his father’s 1998 Camaro into a pole that supports a canopy at the school. Security cameras captured part of the Camaro versus pole incident; but from the images made available to the Naples Daily News, it should make those with half a brain question the teen’s explanation of “backing” into the pole.
In the security footage the ground is obviously wet and based on the position of the ’98 Camaro it appears the slid into the pole. Evidence of tire marks provide evidence that the driver attempted to drive at high rate of speed through the parking lot or was attempting to “drift” the Camaro. Perhaps the 17-year-old was just trying to get a little sideways when he lost control and smacked the driver’s side of the ’98 into pole?
Regardless of the attempted display of jackassery, the young driver fled the scene and was later arrested after turning himself into local law enforcement. According to the Naples Daily News, the teen was charged with failing to report property damage and careless driving. Perhaps this young man has a future in NASCAR?
