PRI 2014: BorgWarner’s New Passenger Vehicle Turbos

BorgWarner’s newest passenger vehicle turbochargers were on display at this year’s PRI tradeshow.

Few things say performance like Indianapolis and BorgWarner in the same sentence, so it’s not lost on the visitors to the 2014 PRI tradeshow that the performance company has unleashed a line of new products in their drivetrain division.

For many years BorgWarner has been creating turbocharging systems that allow enthusiasts to meet current and future emission standards, while designing systems that provide improved performance, smooth running, reliability and durability. BorgWarner’s Seth Temple showed us two of the newest turbochargers in the company’s portfolio. “The 200SX-E and 300SX-E are systems that make power in a small package, and look good.”

These compact units take little space but are capable of producing a lot of power in a single turbocharger application.

“The ‘E’ in the turbocharger’s nomenclature stands for ‘enhanced’,” said Temple, which is an appropriate description for the compact pair of turbos.

Features of the 200SX-E and 300SX-E Turbos:

  • Integrated speed sensor port
  • Forged milled compressor wheel
  • Pre-machined boost port
  • Optimized compressor cover aerodynamics

“The 200SX-E will support up to 650 horsepower in a single turbo application,” explained Temple. “It can fit into tight spaces and still provide good response. The 300SX-E offers improved aerodynamics across the board. It flows more air for the same size, and if that’s not enough, we offer an even bigger turbo.”

Literature produced by the company shows a range of 300-650 horsepower for the compact 200SX-E, which is offered in the volute, twin flow turbine housing,  and 320-1000 horsepower for the 300SX-E with either the volute, open flow or volute twin flow with the 80mm turbine wheel.
