Last week on Malibu Monday, we caught up with the American Modern crew as they started the interior teardown of their 1965 Malibu SS. While they got plenty done, including pulling the seats and the carpeting out of the car’s interior, they didn’t quite get it gutted. This week, however, it’s a different story. Check out the video above for the completion of the Malibu interior teardown on The Build.

Although the steering wheel has seen better days, components like the steering column don’t look too bad and may actually be able to be saved for the Malibu’s rebuild. Images: American Modern on Facebook
While Claim’s Specialist Rick Drewry and the crew of The Build took many large interior components out of their disheveled Chevy Malibu in last week’s video, this week they’re tackling some more finicky interior parts, like the dash. Although this interior staple seems to be in decent condition, it has just a few things working against it- damage underneath and some aftermarket additions, namely gauges and a stereo.
In addition to tearing out the dash, the crew is also tackling the steering wheel and column.
These components were pushed back during the car crash that resulted in all the front end damage, but certain pieces may actually be able to be saved, reducing the amount of money and scavenging the crew of The Build will have to do to redo the classic Chevy’s interior.
With the glove box door off, heater box removed and the heater core checked, it looks like the crew of The Build will be able to move on to the next section of their car pretty soon. Be sure to check back next Monday to see what’s next for the American Modern Malibu.
He may be the head of the Malibu project, but Rick Drewry isn't afraid of getting his hands dirty when it comes to tearing down the classic Chevy.
