It may not be “Hump Day” quite yet for the week, but it is on this week’s episode of The Build. Last week, the American Modern crew took on the task of replacing the shifter hump as well as patching the driver’s side floor panel to undo some damage caused by previous modifications and use. This week, they finish up the process in what we like to call our Malibu Monday Hump Day Edition. Check out the video above.
With the floor pan patch cut out and laid in place from last week’s episode, Claims Specialist Rick Drewry carefully clamps and welds the patch into place. But the patch doesn’t completely cover the hole that was made by removing the rusted metal, so the crew has to cut an addition patch and fit it into place. Once this is done, it is welded into place and then the crew is able to move on to the shifter hump replacement.
Having had a more modern shifter hump used, the Malibu’s floor was modified to accommodate the change. But in true Build style, the American Modern crew is taking the Malibu back to its roots and equipping it with a factory-correct shifter hump. This requires a new hump to be put in place, welded and then patched around. Work from both the top and the bottom of the car are necessary to complete the project.
Be sure to check back next week to see where The Build takes the American Modern crew and their fans next!
