SEMA 2015: Heidts’ New Pro-G IRS Suspension For Third-Gen F-Bodies

At this year’s SEMA Show, Heidts Hot Rods and Muscle Car Parts unveiled a new rear suspension that “wowed” musclecar fans. Designed for third-generation F-body cars, it replaces the factory torque arm and solid rear axle with a racing-inspired independent rear suspension (IRS). Available as a base kit that can be used for racing or street applications, there are several options available.

The first of its kind, Heidts’ third-gen F-body IRS kit was unveiled at the 2015 SEMA Show.

“It is the first of its kind,” said Erik Doris of Heidts. “Nobody else in the market offers an IRS for these cars.” Since it is the first of its kind, it makes as the perfect kit for anyone who wants to up the handling game of their third-gen Camaro or Firebird.

The street version is designed to work in cars with up to 500 horsepower, both on and off the track, and is best-suited for the weekend warrior. The higher horsepower version is designed to handle up to 800 horsepower, and comes with Wilwood rotors and dual-piston calipers to slow the beast safely at the end of the line. The street version comes standard with C4 Corvette rotors and calipers with Wilwood’s system available as an option.

“We spent the past six months in research and development, along with some real-world testing with this kit bolted on a car for the SEMA Show,” Doris said.

A two-point strut tower brace, three-point strut tower brace, and inner subframe connectors are also available as optional add-on items. According to Doris, this kit can be installed over a weekend, but does require a few special tools, such as a plasma cutter, to get the job done right.
