1956 Chevrolet – TMI Products’ Second 2024 TRIM Road Tour Winner

The weather was good at the Del Mar Fairgrounds when Goodguys came to town and the earth shook as a stream of custom cars rolled in for the weekend. We were there when this 1956 Chevrolet won the big award for best installation of a TMI Products interior as the second winner of TMI’s 2024 TRIM Road Tour.

The TRIM Road Tour is a multi-stop competition that spotlights the best TMI-equipped vehicles from across the nation. All this will lead up to the TMI Products’ TRIM Awards at the 2024 SEMA Show in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Second Winner, First Rate Build

TMI Products awarded the company’s second of five 2024 TRIM Road Tour winners at the Goodguys in Del Mar, California, on April 7, 2024. TMI’s Ross Berlanga handed the trophy to Barry White, owner of Barry’s Speed Shop in Corona, California, the builder of the 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air. Barry accepted the award on behalf of the car’s owner, Andy Carlson.

This voluptuous Tri-Five wears a complete TMI Products interior in the Sport R pattern. The front low back seats are covered in charcoal with black suede bolsters and white contrast stitching and are paired with a matching molded fiberglass rear seat. The seats are paired with fiberglass molded front and rear door panels in the same charcoal Sport R pattern. White contrast stitching, heat embossing, and built-in armrests add a tailored look. Finishing off the interior is the complementary fiberglass Sport R Front Console that has been customized with a center shifter and modified cup holder location along with TMI’s full-coverage Premium Carpet Kit.

Battle of the Builders

Carlson will compete against the winners of the remaining three stops for the 2024 TRIM Road Tour Championship, along with Jim McKay, who won the first 2024 TRIM Road Tour award this past February at the GNRS in Pomona, California, with his 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle.

The champion of the 2024 TRIM Road Tour will earn a trip to the SEMA Show (November 5-8, 2024) that will include a Top 20 finalist spot at the TMI Products’ Trim Awards event, a pass to the SEMA Show, a feature parking spot at the SEMA Show, and a five-night hotel stay during the event.

Remaining Opportunities

Three stops remain on the 2024 TRIM Road Tour and it’s not too late to enter your vehicle for consideration at one of the upcoming shows, which include:

  • C10 Nationals- Fort Worth, TX May 10-11, 2024
  • Goodguys Columbus, OH, July 12-14, 2024
  • TMI Cars & Clearance Corona, CA- August 17, 2024

Prospective participants are asked to enter their vehicles online. Then, they will be added to the judging roster and potentially earn a trip to Las Vegas later this year.

Get To Know TMI

TMI Automotive Products was founded in 1982 by the Tuccinardi brothers, who began producing Volkswagen door panels in their family garage in Torrance, California. Over the years, TMI has continuously evolved to meet the changing demands of the automotive market, offering a wide range of interior components, including seating, consoles, carpet kits, door panels, convertible roof assemblies, headliners, and dash pads. Our favorite part of TMI is they ship all the components to you, ready to install, alleviating your car’s elongated stay at an upholstery shop.

Despite TMI’s growth, their commitment to hands-on, in-house construction has remained unchanged. Every aspect of their product is meticulously performed. From the cutting and welding of raw materials to the stitching, foam pouring, and final assembly, is performed with hands-on precision. What started as a family-run business four decades ago remains true to its roots. For more information, go here and check them on Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube.
