Will This One-of-a-Kind 1969 Camaro Z28 Fetch Six Figures At Mecum?

First Generation Camaro Z28s have always had a place in hot rodders hearts as the ultimate Camaro. This 1969 Camaro Z28 may be the ultimate legend. The original owner, Mr. Lyle Mader of Madison, South Dakota special ordered this Z28 to be one of a kind machine. He handsomely optioned this bowtie musclecar to experience its maximum potential. The ultimate performance package of a dual cross ram manifold and two Holley 4 barrel carbs sits on top of the 302. A cowl induction hood feeds air to the carbs while a Muncie M22 Rock Crusher runs through the gears. A 4.10 posi out back lites up the tires and power assisted JL8 four-wheel disc brakes bring the car to a standstill.

Besides performance, Mader gave the Z28 a few luxuries as well. Soft ray tinted glass, a fold down rear seat, center console with the U17 special instrumentation cluster, speed warning indicator, black custom seats and an 8-track stereo to blast Creedence Clearwater Revival were added. For the final touch, Mader ordered a special light blue paint that had been nicknamed “Carolina Blue” for its popularity among cars in the Carolina’s.

Mader’s car arrived at Rapp Chevrolet in Marion, South Dakota, on June 23rd 1969, the car was shipped by rail. Somewhere along the way, thieves climbed aboard and stole the cross-ram induction system along with the 8-track tape player. Luckily when both parts of the car were replaced by the dealership they were documented as being original to the car.

This Carolina Blue Z28 is well known as a legend among the Camaro community as being the perfect example of a one of a kind survivor. Only 46,432 original miles were clocked and she looks as good as she did when she left the plant. She will be up for auction by Friday during the 27th Annual Mecum Spring Classic held May 13-18. Thanks to her one-of-a-kind status, she is expected to fetch a price tag of $250,000 – $400,000. Do you have a classic car that you wish you held onto?
