Video: Witness “The Preacher” A Custom ’69 Chevy C10

Finding another great hot rod build, ScottieDTV spotted this gem built by Hudson’s Rod & Customs in Strawberry Plains, Tennessee. This 1969 Chevy C10 stepside truck looks like it was built for the showroom floor, but is actually intended to be an autocross competitor.

From head to toe, this custom hauler an absolute treat. “There’s no chop, and sits extremely low on coilovers, but we’re looking to get it up another inch or so,” said Will Hudson, co-founder of Hudson’s Rod & Customs. “The customer wants the truck to be as low as possible, almost showroom status, but he intends on taking it to the track and autocrossing it.”

Will and his team shaved almost everything from the body. That means the taillights and door handles, to removing the side mirrors. The truck was given the name “The Preacher,” and boy does this truck preach quality and meticulous attention to detail.

“We worked to create suspending taillights, and even smoothed the stepside to give the truck a different look,” Will said. “Everything has a nice, mechanical theme on the truck, and we wanted it that to translate  throughout the build. It’s essentially a sprocket-based theme, which is also inside the truck cab.”

The supercharged LSX engine under the hood fits courtesy of a cowl-induction hood scoop.

If you think this truck is just a pretty face, there is a sizable, supercharged LSX engine under the hood that displaces 454 cubic-inches, which produces an insane 1,170 horsepower on the dyno. The bracing under the hood also carries the mechanical theme, with its holes and industrial style aesthetics. There are even functional air vents under the hood on each side of the truck that direct air to help keep the big engine cool. The air vents get their supply from openings in the front bumper. The cowl-induction hood scoop was fitted specifically to make the necessary space to house the supercharger mounted atop the engine.

Heading inside, the custom C10 continues to deliver the mechanical theme. “The interior has a dimple-dyed sheetmetal headliner, backed up with nylon,” Will said. “The seats have tamper-proof screws with metal washers, which actually go straight into the seat padding.”

The interior design is clean and has a distinct industrial look.

The dashboard is a custom design,  and actually stemmed from a 1970 C10 dash shell. “The gauge cluster was custom made,” Will said. “We went through three different clusters before we got the one we both liked. The gauge cluster is actually floating, allowing you access to even clean behind it.”

The interior also features a Vintage Air system to keep things cool. The dash and foot areas have honeycomb grills, and the truck also has a custom-built console that surrounds the shifter that operates the six-speed manual transmission. “Access to all of the truck’s controls are located in the center armrest near the shifter, giving the ability to make changes on the fly with this truck,” Will said.

The fuel tank is concealed and easily accessible via an access door.

The sprocket theme carries from the dash, to the doors, and even all the way to the truck bed. Aiming for a different look, there is actually a spot near the end of the bed that opens to reveal a mounted fuel tank. This gorgeuous truck is but one of the projects coming out of Hudson’s.
