Hello all, and welcome back to Tuning Thursdays, where you can kick back, imbibe your preferred libations, and plan to plan what you’ll do for the rest of the day. Last week, we took a closer look at the Europop smash hit, “I’m Blue (Da Ba Dee)” by Eiffel 65, and subsequently thanked God the ’90s are never coming back again. Auto-Tune, unfortunately, is here to stay.
This week, we bring you a shorter but by no means less unique production, made by the Detroit-based hip-hop group, Slum Village. The song, “EZ Up”, wants ladies to “ease up” to the inherent sexiness that is found in the black late-gen Malibu and copper orange crossover HHR. Wait, what?
Now, we’re not here to rag on a couple of great vehicles that serve a purpose for the regular Joe Schmo who just wants some reasonably-priced cars. The ’06 or ’07 Malibu SS may well be a front-wheel-drive car, but its 240hp and lb-ft. of torque can make it a nimble little midsize.
We’re not sure of its potential for attracting fly honeys, nor are we here to deny such merits–we’re just suggesting that if this whole video is a commercial for Chevrolet, they could’ve supplied the guys with some slicker cars as part of the “Chevrolet: An American Revolution” campaign.
A brand new Corvette, maybe. Or the concept Camaro, which would’ve been a welcome addition to this video trying to hype up the Bowtie name. A sedan and a neoclassical station wagon aren’t exactly what I would consider chick magnets.
Admittedly, there is a third vehicle in the video: a ’60s Malibu, resting awkwardly in the background. But that thing is just another lowrider destined for an untimely flip onto its roof.
Thanks for checking out another edition of Tuning Thursdays. We’ll see you again soon, and remember: hydraulics hurt us, they hurt you, but they really hurt old Malibus.
