Ah, donks–they’re representative of one of the most polarizing car cultures in existence, alongside hellaflush imports and Prius lovers. There are those of us who can understand that everyone has an identity and can appreciate it, and there are those of us who believe that it’d be better if they all just went the way of the dodo.
Yet for better or worse, these trends in automotive enthusiasm are here to stay. We present to you one such icon of the movement here today: a lime green 5th-generation Camaro, belonging to Corey Jones of Chicago.
In a video interview conducted by Barcroft Cars, we get an understanding of what makes Jones tick and how he wound up with this insane ride. It all started in 2008, when Jones started customizing cars for like-minded friends who wanted a whip they could be proud of.
“I fed off of what was [coming out of Florida,] and wanted to bring it to my city,” he states. After getting his Camaro, the man designed the entire car from top to bottom, starting with the inclusion of 32-inch wheels rims and ending with the customized shade of green he wanted covering the whole vehicle.
Jones sought the help of his coworkers at Excalibur Motors, a custom shop that specializes in paint and wheels near the Windy City. “It took them about a month and a half to paint it,” says Jones. “It took them four days to do the interior, and about three days to do the door panels.”
Now complete, the car has earned Jones his fair share of street cred, and it hasn’t hurt to receive recognition from the likes of DUB, who awarded Jones a Second Place trophy at their Chicago show this year. Now, the question becomes: has this owner and his ride earned any cred from you? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
