Video: Rare Barn Find:1955 Chevy Bel Air Convertible

We found a great Chevy budget restomod guy with his own YouTube channel. According to Daniel Restodan’s “about” description on his YouTube account, Daniel will show you “how to build classic cars on a budget in your garage by doing all the work yourself.”

Daniel does this with some home-made engineering and budget sense in his builds. We find his techniques useful and admire his self-taught skills.

What we really like about Daniel’s channel is the really decent car finds that he captures at local salvage yards and swap meets. One of his most recent finds is a 1955 Chevy Bel Air convertible.

The 1955 model year of the Bel Air marked a new generation for model. With styling changes and power upgrades at a level never seen before in a new model year previously, the ’55 Bel Air unveiled a crisp look. One of the new features was a “Ferrari” inspired grill. This feature did not sit well with the auto buying public and was abandoned in the 1956 model year.

In addition to the “Ferrari-inspired” grill, the 1955 year Bel Air is identified by the nameplate “Bel Air” written in gold lettered script for much of the year. Daniel explains in the video that this car has a 265 ci, V8 engine, which was the first year that this engine was offered as an option. Originally offered with a 4-barrel Rochester carburetor, this engine’s output was roughly 195 hp.

Daniel also explains in the video that the car had only two owners with the second one owning the car since 1957.  While it is a repaint, the car has all it’s original glass, chrome and drivetrain.  The 265ci V8 may have been a real power package for the day but the engine had no provision for oil filtration. This lack of filtration makes this engine desirable to period collectors. That is what this car is, a valuable car for period collectors.

There’s one more reason to like Daniel’s YouTube channel, “I’m a regular guy with a full time (factory) job and I am raising kids and married and I still manage to have this hobby, building classic cars. Mainly, my videos are safe for anyone to watch, from kids to grandparents, I keep all my videos clean and positive.”

The world could use a little more positivity.
