In recent years, the Midwest town of Tulsa, Oklahoma, has become known for it’s wicked-fast door slammers, thanks to the popularity of Discovery’s Street Outlaws. This time, it wasn’t Discovery doing the filming, rather YouTube Channel Urban Hillbilly Videos. They spotted this killer 1978 Chevy Malibu that was turning out regular four-second passes at 190 mph at Tulsa Raceway Park’s 1/8th mile.
It’s powered by a Goliath 548 cubic-inch big-block that’s armed with a pair of Garret GTX 98mm Turbos turning out an impressive 3,200 horsepower. The mill is bolted to a TH400 that was built by M&M Transmissions.
The car is owned by Jason Carter, and is raced by Mark Micke of M&M Transmissions out of Jefferson City, Missouri. The duo have been running the Malibu for quite some time, winning races in both the ARDL and the NMCA. Their Malibu was one of the original small tire turbo cars that competed in the early years of the Orlando World Street Nationals.
The car was hooking so well, that its launches appeared civil and gentle rather than wild and chaotic. During each pass, it looked like the Malibu was shot out of a cannon. Its turbos could be heard whining down the strip as the blue bomber looked like a speck of blue light racing by.
