As a professional skateboarder, Josh Kalis has the ability to make a skate park out of nearly any urban landscape. Kalis’ “goofy” boarding style says something about his left foot, but his desire for wide open, forced induction race cars says something about his right. Today’s featured video is of Kalis running his twin-turbo, LS powered First Gen at the Barona 1/8 mile drags in Lakeside, California.
A Grand Rapids, Michigan native, Kalis’ love for fast street cars is as tremendous as his passion for professional skateboarding. His motoring tastes, however, focused on the forced motor high winders of the Autobahn. As a matter of fact, it was the high performance geniuses over at All Speed Customs who convinced Kalis to revert back from Euro tuning to American muscle.
An all around resto and performance shop out of Muskegon Heights, Michigan, All Speed convinced Kalis that they could build an American piece that would be by far faster than his two previous cars, a supercharged BMW M5 and a twin-turbo Porsche 996.
For Kalis and his local car club, Southside Street Cars, neither the M5 or the 996 could fill the position of “fastest street car.” Brian Moat of All Speed was responsible for turning Kalis back to American grunt while Kalis was taking his M5 to be dyno tuned,
“The guys at All Speed assured me that they could build a muscle car that would outperform my BMW and my Porsche, and I would look a lot cooler doing it.”
All Speed also does upholstery, and they’ve given Kalis’ twin-turbo First Gen a classic but clean look that consists of black leather Cobra buckets fitted with four point harnesses from Simpson Racing. A custom fiberglass, Marquez dash houses a set of carbon fiber gauges from Auto Meter, including boost and air/fuel ratio.
Drag racing and skateboarding are the staple of Josh Kalis’ “diet,” but his and All Speed’s twin-turbo Camaro reveals both sides of the skater’s “Jekyll and Hyde” syndrome!
