Australia is known for its large things. One example is the Lion’s Mane Jellyfish. With bodies over 7 feet wide and tentacles reaching over 100 feet in length, these guys can get pretty huge. Another example is the Huntsman Spider. With a leg span of up to 12 inches, these dwarf any spiders we have here in the U.S. So what does this have to do with the auto world?
Let’s take a look back at December 1st, 2007. This was a day of automotive infamy in the land down under. At the Brisbane International Speedway in Brisbane, Australia, over 70 of the biggest-name competitors were invited to melt their tires, or blow their motors trying, in a huge championship burnout contest.
The winner was to be crowned Burnout King by Elite Pro Street Burnouts. At the wheel of the blown second-gen Camaro in the video above is the owner Johnny Nason. As amazing as this tire cooking burnout is, it only netted Johnny 7th place.
After all 70 entrants burned rubber throughout the day and well into the night a winner was chosen. The crowned victor of this crazy smoke-filled contest was Leroy Rees with his blown big-block V8 Holden Statesman named “B1GV8”. To check out the Burnout King and his winning attempt, click here. Truly massive, indeed.
