The burn out competition at Kandos’ Street Machine and Hot Rod show has become one of the favorite automotive competitions to cover in the sportsman category. Entering your vehicle in the event means that it is registered for street use. This year’s rule change declared that participants would have to prove that their cars were registered by showing registration papers or the registration label with certification number. Unregistered cars could attend the event but an unregistered entry fee of $150 Australian would be required. This pretty much stops unregistered cars from attending the event.
This year’s event was held on Saturday, January 25th, beginning with the show and shine, sound off dyno, Miss Street Machine contest leading up to the final, and most popular event, the burnout competition.
The highlight of the show is the burn out competition where these street legal cars spin their tires as long as they are still holding air and attached to the rims. This is commonly called “hooning” in Australia in reference to an anti-social behavior or activity. The term is used to refer to one who drives a car in a manner which is anti-social by the standards of contemporary society. Too fast, too noisily or too dangerously are all examples of “hooning”.
During the Street Machine and Hot Rod Show, hooning is required in order to be a success. Many of the cars show up with specialty engines built specifically for the event. It’s common to see a blower mounted on top of a big-block Holden engine. Looks match style points in this show.
Our video today shows an older Holden Statesman V8, we are guessing from the 1980 to 1983 period because of the longer wheelbase, lack of badging and vertical grill with four headlights.
What happens when you take a vintage Holden V8, beef it up and slap on a monster blower? Hooning is what happens. Pure, unadulterated hooning without dilution. This video shows such a vehicle, and we are to understand that the Holden has been tagged with the moniker; OFMYFKGHD Blown V8. Enjoy this video of this well known Holden acting un-social and hooning is the most delicious manner.
