We love drag racing. However, we saw this and couldn’t help but scratch our heads in disbelief. It’s not often you see a roughly 6500-8000lb diesel rumbling down the track, it’s even less often to see the driver able to muscle said huge truck down the big end of the track with a broken tie rod!
Anyone who is fairly familiar with how a vehicle works, knows that you absolutely have to keep your tie rods in check, otherwise, you have no steering. More so – should someone be drag racing with bad tie rods when it’s apparent that the steering is taking a beating the first three passes down the track? Youtube user “wyldfantasies” has shown us that it is possible to make a pass in a big, ol’ fat truck with very little to no steering. Did we mention he’s doing every launch in four wheel drive?
During his first launch, it’s pretty obvious that his steering and tie rods are taking a pretty big whooping as the right front wheel wobbles hard partially down the track. After making his second and third passes – it’s obvious those tie rods are screaming “PLEASE STOP! WE’RE HURTING!” as the heavy Duramax rumbles down the track in what appears to be a hard to steer fashion.
Finally, the poor truck lines up for it’s fourth pass. He barely makes it to the 60′ mark and the tie rod finally gives in and breaks. What? What’s that? He’s still racing down the track!? The right front wheel makes a hard left and remains there until the end of the track. The man with the video recorder says in total disbelief, “Are you serious? I think he just broke his wheel! Yeah, he’s dragging his tire!”
We wouldn’t say we’re in total disbelief, but it’s still pretty crazy! In the comments, we were able to find what appears to be the Duramax owner who says that the tie rod broke where it meets the sleeve. We also found a lot of colorful comments about the passes. Our hats are off to you, sir. As well as your Duramax and big kahunas too!
