Tony Eury Jr., who served as crewchief for the JR Motorsports #7 Impala driven by Danica Patrick and Kelly Bires last year, knows a thing or two about racing and Chevy’s. Eury was born into NASCAR’s racing family. Grandfather Ralph Eury and Ralph Earnhardt were close friends.
Father Tony Eury married Sandra Gee, daughter of famed engine builder/crew chief Robert Gee. Dale Earnhardt Sr. married Sandra Gee’s sister, who is Dale Earnhardt Jr’s mother. Sounds a little complicated and inbred, so we’ll cut to the chase. Tony Eury Jr. is Dale Earnhardt Jr’s cousin.
Eury Jr. worked with Dale Earnhardt Incorporated from 1991 to 2007 when he moved with Earnhardt Jr. to the Hendrick team.
Eury served as the car chief for Dale Jr’s Busch Series team until the move to Hendrick Motorsports as the crew chief of Dale Jr’s Sprint Cup team. He was briefly moved to Hendrick’s research and development department until he was appointed as the crew chief of the #7 Go Daddy Impala.
From his days at DEI to his current position at Hendrick Motorsports, Eury Jr. has been involved in Chevrolet stock cars. It’s fair to say that Eury Jr. knows a thing or two about Chevy’s and racing.
