Check out the latest spy video via YouTube that shows a C7 ZR1 prototype streaking around the Nurburgring in Germany.

This is the first time in a long spell that we’ve seen a ZR1 prototype with the smaller version of the rear wing. The mule with the huge, “laundry line” spoiler seems to get all the screen time.

We know that the new ZR1 will be the latest repository for GM’s current aero trickery and though some details are well known, we really don’t know how the final hardware will manifest itself on production cars.

For now, we do know that there will be two versions of spoiler size and that there will be active aero incorporated into the car.  In what combination each wing size be outfitted is still unclear.

The fine print of the patent GM applied for states “a mechanism configured to vary a position of the adjustable aerodynamic-aid element relative to the vehicle body to thereby control a movement of the ambient airflow relative to the vehicle body.” Images also illustrate a relay  used to detect the ride height of the vehicle and react accordingly. A controller can then tell the system to calibrate aero based on the that data.

Rumor has it the C7 ZR1 will debut in August at the Continental Tire Road Race Showcase at Road America. If so, we are close to the offical reveal.  If not, next stop might be in Detroit in January of 2018.
