Ok Gearheads, when you were growing up did your Mom always give you grief about all the car parts in the house? Now that you’ve moved out of your parents house, does your girlfriend roll her eyes and shake her head when you bring more car parts in the place? If you’ve felt this pain, then check this one out:

We found a video on YouTube from a user that goes by Chuckhole78. It seems that ol’ Chuck managed to rebuild a complete Gen 1 small-block Chevy in his bedroom then con three buddies to carry it out to his truck and haul it to the dyno.

Here’s how the engine build went down according to Chuck: “I bought my parts from A1 auto in Orlando. They sell wholesale parts, and I did all the machine work myself. Since I paid $875 for the top end kit that sells for $3,000, I feel that I did pretty good.

The entire build cost was just over $3,900, which includes every dollar I spent, including machine work, all of the components and fasteners, plugs & wires, break in oil, paint and even a $480 trip to the engine dyno. After all of that,  it turns out that a more powerful 383ci stroker crate motor could be purchased for a little less than I paid to build. But its cool to pop the hood and say “I built that!”

Our builder says that the bedroom motor has a Lunati roller cam and retro-fit lifters, Holley aluminum cylinder heads, Eagle rotating assembly, Weiand Stealth intake, Holley Street Avenger carb, and Mallory Ignition built onto a four-bolt main block that was bored 0.030 -inch over.

According to Chuck, “It made 406 hp and 400 lb-ft on the dyno. The motor has found its way into a Pontiac Ventura.”
