Out of all the wild street cars seen at the Detroit Autorama in 2015, this unique dual-turboed 1969 Chevrolet Camaro may just have been the most impressive piece of equipment on the floor. Built by Tom Bailey of Lake Orion, Michigan, this car has a shocking 4,000 horsepower. We’re not sure how useful that is, and it looks like an awful shiny racecar.
We’re told this car gets the name from its ability to run a 1/4-mile pass in only 6-seconds. What makes this car really impressive, is that it is street legal. Yes, that term is subjective, but if it can be licensed in his state, it’s hard to argue the fact. If you look closely by the parachute bags, mounted on the rear bumper is a Michigan license plate. While some may argue that it’s impossible, it has a bumper, it has taillights, and it has the legal documentation to prove it is “street legal.”
The interior shows that the build team didn’t waste an ounce on anything that it didn’t need, except of course the passenger seat. The controls are simple, straightforward, and modest. Although it is clear that no expense of weight or cash was saved when it comes to the support frame.
The last incarnation of “Sick Seconds” could even be seen towing a trailer. The versatility of these cars is incredible, how many other drag racers run the track in 6-seconds or less, are street-legal, and can pull a trailer? As can be expected, Tom Bailey and his team are proud of this street-legal 1969 Chevrolet Camaro. Being such a unique car, it’s like their website says: “This is not a race car that is street legal. It is a street-legal car that can also race!”
