While many of us are still reeling from the recession, there are still those out there with the money and wherewithal to buy ridiculous engines for over-the-top cars. And nobody does ridiculous horsepower better than Nelson Racing Engines, which has become something of a YouTube sensation for their monster motors.Their latest creation is a 1,900 horsepower 632 cubic-inch engine from NRE’s “Hot Rod” series. This beast makes so much power that they can’t even get all the way on the throttle…and eventually, the dyno supposedly breaks.
We say supposedly because, if you were hoping for some spectacular explosion, well, you’ll be disappointed as there is none. However, there is some huge horsepower to be had coming from a beautiful-looking, awesome-sounding twin-turbo big block V8. Nelson claims that he can only get halfway on the throttle for fear of busting the $60,000 engine dyno. And it supposedly breaks anyways.
At its peak, running C16 racing fuel from VP and 27 .lbs of boost, the engine made 1917 horsepower and 1752 ft-lbs of torque. That’s mind boggling, and from such a beautiful engine to boot. On pump gas it still made over 1,400 horsepower. Who says the good times aren’t rolling (at least for some people.)
