Another Thursday has arrived, and you all know what that means: time for Tuning Thursdays, where we “plan out” working on our Chevys while listening to someone sing the praises of our favorite Bowtie. Today’s selection will be a bit more mainstream as we listen to the Ramones thrash about with “Go Lil’ Camaro, Go.”

From 1987 and taken from their tenth album, Halfway to Sanity, the song is extremely simple yet fun, what with lyrics like “Girls, cars, sun, fun.” And clocking in at just 2:04, there’s not much content to extract from the material, but it’s enough to headbang to. At least we have Debbie Harry of Blondie fame providing back vocals to Joey’s mundane lyrics.

At the time of this album’s release in September 1987, the 1988 Camaro would have been the one on people’s wish lists. The IROC-Z was, of course, at the peak of its run during this time, offering not just the cool name but the upgraded everything, from its 5.7L engine to the customized Delco-Bilstein shocks and larger sway bars, to those sick decals adorning the doors and rocker panels.
Added to all that was the state-of-the-art throttle body injector, replacing the antiquated but venerable four-barrel carburetor on the 305 V8. The TBI was installed onto the cast-iron intake manifold, and the engine given the code LO3. It could only produce 170 hp, but it was Chevrolet’s way of keeping up with the Joneses as electronic fuel injection superseded carburetion to deliver power without polluting the environment having the bigwig nannies in D.C. get their panties in a bunch.
In any case, we hope you enjoyed this stroll through history as part of Tuning Thursdays. Next week we have a real fringe Chevy song about the very popular El Camino to feature. See you next Thursday, everyone.
