Chevy Trucks are known for being durable and long lasting, but this guy, Bob Sportel goes the extra mile (literally) with his ’57 Chevy.
Bob lives in the small town of Prinsburg, Minnesota, where he has owned this his Chevy truck for 38 years. He drives it at least a mile every day; to and from work, and it’s still going strong. This truck has been through some good times, and has had some great memories. For one, it was his daughter’s choice ride to prom, (who needs a limo when you got a classic work of American machinery to roll up in?). The appearance of this truck might seem shabby, rusted, and worn down, which is just how some like their vintage trucks. But, it holds a kind of value that can’t be bought, only gained with years with trust and reliability.
Bob is a man who holds onto what he’s got: he has held his job for 40 years, and his wife who has lasted alongside him for the greater part of that time. They wonder what will give out first, them or the truck. With a history like that, there is no vehicle that could replace it. This truck has a deeper meaning than just a means of getting to work. “There wasn’t a need to have something better. Just getting by with simple things is kind of a small town way of life” His son Kyle eloquently stated. Bob paid $75 for the truck back in 1976, and he wondered if he paid too much at the time. Now looking back, he feels that he made a damn good investment.
Owning the same vehicle for 38 years is pretty impressive, and a unique milestone to have. After that many years, it’s something you can’t let go of. Keep on keeping on Bob, we know your truck will.
