The Chevy FNR Concept Car Goes Into the Future

Chevrolet’s new concept car was recently released for speculation during the company’s 10th anniversary in China, and it not only looks amazing, but is expected to preform with some features that are beyond expectation.

The Chevy FNR, witch stands for “Find New Roads” is the model car planned to be released in 2030. The design and planning for it is extensive, but it will revolutionize how people go about driving. The FNR is said to be capable of self driving (a whole new meaning to cruise control) when needed, and will be able to “communicate” with other vehicles on the road, as well as the driver itself. This car is so far ahead of it’s time that the technology for it just doesn’t exist yet, and the rest of the industry needs to play catch up for it to become a reality.

The design for it is rather interesting, and in our opinion, bad-ass, It looks like something from straight out of a Tron movie. The body is built with a light-weight carbon fiber, and will have electric motors inside the spinning rims that will also help power the car itself. Some other features are night vision, blind spot alert, lane change warning, and adaptive cruise control. However, the self driving concept is going to be it’s biggest feature, and a milestone for auto-industry.

GM is playing in the game of autonomous vehicles, jumping on the competition–or perhaps sending a hint, for competitors to get on board so that vehicle-to-vehicle communication is possible, compatible, and wide spread at the same time. The FNR is also said to be priced for affordability, appealing to the younger generation of millennials, and putting more of them on the road. While self-driving cars like the Google car exist today, a future where this functionality will be required for all cars as if it were a smog test is foreseeable. Imagine being able to sit in the driver’s seat hammered, and be on the way home from the bar and have no doubt whatsoever that you will get there alive and without a DUI. That’s a convenience many will pay money for, and future generations will take for granted. There may be a future where car crashes are as rare as being struck by lightning.

There are high hopes for this car, the capabilities planned for the FNR are currently the future standard for not only Chevy and GM, but all competitors in the auto-industry as the need for better fuel economy, and smarter computer systems are becoming more integral to the function and value of new vehicles. The future may be auto-pilot driving, but for now, I think I’ll enjoy being in control of my steering wheel.
